"Janet's guitar work is as poetic as her writing. This is a lovely album!" Dar Williams about Tick Tock World
I've been performing in clubs and coffeehouses around the country (and a small bit overseas) since 1986 and teaching music since 1988.
Professional highlights include:
1. a Boston Music Award nomination
2. headlining at Club Passim
3. showcasing at a Rockrgrl conference
4. being a semi-finalist in the WKLB Country Showdown
5. being one of the more popular teachers at the Passim Center School of Music.
In addition to performing my original work, I teach general music, guitar, piano and songwriting to people of all ages in various settings. During the school year I teach general music at Pope John Paul II Academy, Lower Mills Campus (K-8), after-school lessons there and at Shady Hill School in Cambridge. I also teach guitar and songwriting classes at the Passim Center School of Music and private lessons. In the summer, I'm the music specialist at Camp Grossman in Westwood. As a performing artist, teaching completes the creative circle for me; when I'm teaching, I'm happier and I write more.
I currently am putting the finishing touches on a new CD titled, "I Met Myself" which will be available for digital download very soon. My first three CDs included the wonderful work of other musicians and I decided to make a sparse recording this time around; most tracks have my voice, guitar or piano only.
"If you have even a passing interest in learning guitar, seek out this woman and be ROCKED! I stumbled into her class almost unintentionally and couldn't have found a better atmosphere to start the journey into musicianship. Janet is incredibly joyful and innately musical, with an energy that makes you genuinely excited to learn and to create. She is completely approachable and conscientiously inclusive, a natural instructor as well as a damned good songwriter. To learn from Janet is to reaffirm the all-around goodness of music-making - go forth and get hooked!" Jacqueline Van Meter
