Janet Feld: Music
Thought I Was Jesus
(Janet Feld, written by Janet Feld/Esther Friedman)
He was driving in a blizzard
With track marks on his arm
I thought it was my mission
To save him from the storm
Thought I was Jesus
First he called crying
"I can't make it alone."
Second time he was begging for bail
From the station phone
Thought I Was Jesus
He said he knew they'd catch him
And he hadn't cared
But after one night back behind bars
He was really scared
Thought I was Jesus
Blindness to sight
Water to wine
In the stupor of love
I made his cross mine
But daylight shone
On the humble truth
I had no miracle
That would save him
I said, the God you've chosen
Is choosing your demise.
If a cage is what it takes for you
To open up your eyes
What was I thinking?
Thought I was Jesus
Thought I was Jesus
